Andrew was well-known the world over as the Managing Director of Paccar Australia. He first joined them in 1972 after spending some time in the USA. After working his way through several positions he was appointed Managing Director in 1980, the first Australian to be appointed to this prestigious position in the organisation.
Andrew’s dedication to his product is legendary. During this time he devoted much time to developing models that both suit every changing legislation and the requirements of the customers were always given priority.
Examples of these initiatives are B-doubles and 48 ft. trailers with the flexibility to build units able to carry 250 tonne or more as required for the mining industries. In the time that Andrew has been with the business, at a factory leve,l the plant has grown from a capacity of 2.5 trucks per day to 11 trucks per day in 2004.
Under Andrew’s dedicated guidance the Paccar product has steadily gained and retained a reputation of being the most suitable for Australian conditions, hence the slogan “Australian Made, World’s Best,” Kenworth trucks are the top seller in Australia.
Andrew Wright also played a key role in establishing the Kenworth Dealer Hall of Fame in Alice Springs where today a truly magnificent display stands in honour of the Kenworth marque which meant so much to him.
