Perth based independent publisher Karen-Maree Kaye started working for the transport industry in 1987 developing the WA Transport Magazine, and the parking bays and bridges book, On the Road Trucks.

Those who meet Karen will attest to her huge heart and tenacious personality which have made her a successful business woman and champion for the transport industry throughout WA.

She recognised the lack of empathy from the public towards what she deems as, “the most essential industry in Australia,” and quickly began a mission to unite industry in order to present itself favourably to the general public. Key events Karen has assisted in initiating have been the resurgence of truck racing and the first West Australian Truck and Trailer Show.

Her background lies in publishing and each year she produces 11 editions of the magazine, WA Transport, which unites all of the transport sectors in this state as well as bringing a voice to the people in the industry.

With a strong awareness for safety on our roads, Karen published the first dedicated Parking Bays, Bridges and Roadside facilities book, specifically for the WA transport sector in 2006. “The book, On the Road Trucks, was developed to save lives on our roads by giving details of the nearest facilities for fatigue management and breakdown in the remotest areas of our vast country,” says Karen.

In 2011 On the Road Trucks second edition was released and incorporated all facilities nationally.

Karen works very closely with all of the transport industry associations and local government. “I am proud of the achievements and improvements that we have been able to make for industry by getting a clear message to bureaucracy of the needs of operators in this state,” says Karen.

Karen has been recognised by the transport sector in WA for her dedication. In 2000 she was presented with the Livestock Transporters Associations President’s Award for outstanding industry contribution, in 2006 she won the WA Transport Woman of the Year award as well as being a runner up to this WA Road Transport Associations prestigious award in 2001 and 2011.
