Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2012.Dale Madill, known as ‘Pockets’ to his family and friends, was born in January 1963 in Brighton, Victoria. His father Alan had started in business operating a successful furniture removalist subcontracting to Wridgways before establishing his own business, Rainbow Furniture Transport. Pockets was keen to join his father in the family transport business and left school at the age of just 15 to work alongside his father, Alan and brother, Wayne.
When he turned 19 Dale purchased a small van within the family company and looked after the office removals and local delivery side of the business. One of Dale’s favourite trucks of this era was a 1418 Mercedes Benz painted up in Rainbow’s colourful livery.
In 1990 Dale moved to Brisbane with his family and transferred to the Brisbane branch of Rainbow Transport. When the Madill family sold the business soon after Dale went to work for Furniture Freighters Australia of Braeside, Victoria hauling interstate line haul. Dale did the run from Melbourne to Brisbane and return for many years becoming well known and respected along the highway. When Dale decided he had enough of the long hauls he took a job at K & R Cooper in Brisbane carting general freight locally.
In 2012 Dale is still employed at K & R Cooper but now works in the office preparing quotes and managing freight distribution of which he has much experience and loves. His brothers, Wayne and Scott, both work there too. Dale says,
“It is like being together in the family business again”.
