Brian John Rayner, born in 1945, operates seven prime-movers doing local container work in and around the Port Adelaide area. He drives full-time as well as managing the administration side of the business.
At the age of 16, he drove a 1961 KGL Bedford semi-tanker for his father. It was the second one in SA. He drove from Jacob's milk factory, Mount Barker, to Adelaide on the old Adelaide-Melbourne road. His first truck was an International AB1-60 which he used for carting milk in 10 gallon cans from local dairy farms and general from anywhere.
Brian later updated to a Commer with a Perkins Motor. Six other Commers followed. He took the biggest load into the factory, 260 cans. A Leyland Mastiff V8 Perkins came next, delivering fuel around the Adelaide Hills, and carting hay. With a truck and trailer, Brian put on 1100 small bales, nine high, three wide. He bought an International semi to cart grain from Menindie Lakes to Adelaide.
The Ford Louisville did interstate, running to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. On several occasion the two kids and wife went for a drive to Sydney. The only trouble was that it was a day-cab. He bought a new Kenworth, called it 'Big Bubba' doing interstate and pulling a stock crate. His best truck was an International S Line 3600, 'Big Bubba 2'; it even had mirror-warmers. Brian is known for his reliability, timeliness and resourcefulness and his ability to complete the job at hand with professionalism and integrity every time. Brian is a real hero of the highways.
