JON JEFFREY OVERELL was born in January, 1945 to Jeffrey and Audrey Overell in Forest Hill, Queensland. Jon and his younger brother Peter grew up on the land at Bonshaw on the Queensland border.
In 1965 at the age of 20 Jon purchased an International dozer to work on the construction of Lake Coolmunda at Inglewood. He then took on a contract for North West Council to clear for power lines. By 1967 Jon had purchased his first truck, a Perkins powered Dodge followed by an International he used to transport machinery, stock and hay.
Over the years Jon expanded his fleet with many different makes and models including B Model Macks and an Integrated Cab Atkinson, a Mack Flintstone and a D1950 International.

In 1980 Jon bought his first brand new International S-Line and called it 'Highway King'. It was in this truck Russel (Jack) Wright taught Anthony (Doey) Myers to drive (Doey still steers for Overell Transport today). Happy with the S-Line Jon purchased several more very quickly.
In 1986 Jon relocated from Texas to 'Croxley Stud' Biddeston, Oakey and in 1992 began a long standing arrangement carting fertilizer for Summit. During this time Jon saw the need to start a Stevedoring business and in 2002 East Coast Stevedoring began on the wharves up and down the east coast. This business complimented the transport business with the trucks having to transport the fertiliser from the wharves to storage and then distribute it to other destinations.

Jon purchased one of the Bicentennial Macks. He was the second owner of 'Thunderbolt', and regrets selling it. Over his time Jon has employed a considerable number of staff and many have been with him for years. He has given advice and guidance to many young blokes who showed an interest in the transport industry, to help them "make a go of it". Over time Jon has assembled an impressive and extensive collection of vintage and collectable trucks and tractors.

Like anyone in business, Jon has had his ups and downs over the years but always soldiered on and rose above the challenges. Said to be a bit of a looker" in his younger years, he is said to have many ladies chasing him. Jon never married. Jon is known as a very kind and generous person with a heart of gold and a reputation for professionalism. REUNION 2017
