Craig Goulthorpe

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2023.

Craig William Goulthorpe was born in 1970 in Hay, New South Wales. Craig fell in love with trucks when he learnt to walk and went with his father every chance he got.

At the age of 12 Craig was driving his dad’s truck around the farms, helping where he could. Craig would go on regular trips with his dad and along the way Craig learnt to change tyres, tarp a load and do mechanical work.

Craig was home alone, while his parents were out checking to see if the paddocks were dry enough to drive on, when he received a phone call letting his dad know the wheat was ready to be loaded. So, Craig being aware of the need to get there as soon as possible, went outside, put the tyres back on the truck and started driving down the highway. He was halfway to the wheat when his parents met their own truck coming towards them, thinking they were seeing things when what they were seeing was their 15 year old son, Craig, proudly driving towards them.

Craig left school early to go with his dad every trip he could until he started working for Northern Transport at 17 years of age, working in the yard until he got his licence at 18. Craig’s first trip out was in a F12 Volvo carting grapes.

Craig went on to running triple side tippers for Seccon Transport before heading west, doing wide loads for Humphries then onto running road trains for KLT Transport, carting stock.

Moving back east Craig continued carting stock for Lewingtons Transport. Craig then moved to Adelaide running east to west express for Clevelands. After a few years Craig headed back east to work for Scarcella running Sydney to Cairns across to Darwin and Kununurra.

After a while Craig moved onto Maranoa Transport running everywhere. Craig then went onto Harris transport carting grain and wide loads. Craig was never interested in settling down until he met his wife Anabelle at 44 and is now in Griffith, New South Wales, known as ‘Desert Boots’, working for GA and JG Young Transport.
