John Fehring
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2023.
John Fehring nicknamed John Boy or ‘JB’ for short, was born in 1964 in Mooroopna, Victoria. John started driving in 1984, in a Benz for Pullars delivering fruit to the canaries in Shepparton, Victoria. John then moved on to working for Bob Frapple delivering containers to the wharf in Melbourne and delivering to Sydney markets. Steel was his backload.
Between 1987 and 1993 John decided to run his own truck. He purchased a 1982 cab over Kenworth with a Barker trailer. He sub-contracted for Avram transport. This involved carting fruit to Sydney market and either Prima juice or steel as backloads.
In 1993 John was ready for a change so went towing for FCN for a few years until sometime in 1995 when he decided to sell the truck for a sea change. John went and explored America.
1996 saw John buy into a partnership, creating the company Tellico. This led to him carting fruit from the Goulburn Valley, Victoria, to Sydney and Brisbane. There were five trucks within the company which was nicknamed “The Wiggles” as each truck was a different colour. The partnership ended in 2000.
Between 2001 and 2007 John drove road trains from Moama, NSW to Cudapin carting crude oil. This led to an interest in the bigger road trains and vehicles with larger capacities around the mines, so John headed to Port Headland and Christmas Creek. He spent the five years between 2007 and 2012 working in these areas before heading back to Victoria.
Upon his return John purchased and successfully ran the local roadhouse in Numurkah. He enjoyed the social side, chatting to all the customers. But after 2017 John decided to return to the road. He began working for Rankin Transport carting tomatoes from Katunga, Victoria, to Sydney and he is still loving this job.
John Boy has driven north of 6 million kilometres and is still going strong.
