Nellie Jones
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2023.
Nellie Jones was born in Kalgoolie, Western Australia in 1937. Nellie has worked tirelessly alongside her family to establish and run a national transport business ‘Hampton Transport Services’, HTS from Western Australia’s Goldfields.
With her husband Bart ‘Boss’ Jones fronting the business and later her children, Nellie worked behind the scenes in office management for more than three decades.
When the business started in 1977 at Hampton Hill Station and eventually moved to the first Kalgoorlie office in 1983 Nellie was the sole office worker, handling all the administration tasks. As the business grew to 300-400 employees Nellie remained an integral part of the administration management team.
With her intelligence and especially a brilliant mind for maths and exceptional memory recall, Nellie kept the office running and made sure hundreds of employees were paid on time.
Nellie has a profoundly generous nature, always looking out for her employees and her family, including providing support to current and past employees through illnesses and times of need.
Nellie’s resilience, determination and strength were the backbone of the company, and she provided guidance and support to anyone who walked the office corridors. Nellie continued to keep the wheels moving at Hampton until the age of 83 when her health led to a reluctant retirement.
The loads Nellie carried throughout her career weren’t freight or livestock, but the welfare of her many employees and family members. Her grandchildren and children have nominated her to thank her for a lifetime of work and dedication that has provided for our family and many others.
