Coral Andrews

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2010.

Coral initially started work on farms in the Wagga Wagga area and this is where she first learnt to drive a truck. In 1970 she got a job with EC Phillips (Ted), driving 1418 Mercedes Benz single axle with a pusher towing a 38' spread open trailer.

She hauled for SPC, Ardmona and Campbells from Shepparton to Brisbane where sometimes drivers would wait literally days on end for a return load.

Coral still remembers loading grain outback of Oakey, and how long it took her to put the cap tarp on. Every time she almost had it over the bows she would sink in the grain and have to have another go. The next truck she drove was also for Phillips, a G88 Volvo with a roadranger fitted, and a tri-axlel trailer. In 1974 Coral moved to Budgewoi carting bricks for Keldar Gosford. When Keldar sold out to Boral, Coral went and bought a Kenworth and named it Coral's Worry and went back interstate hauling pipes Newcastle to Melbourne for Turners and Shepparton Brisbane for Phillips.

During the rail strike in WA she took SPC from Shepparton to Perth. It was on one of these runs she was caught up in the Razorback Blockade. She then went on to manage Phillip's Sydney depot at chipping Norton and then opened their branch in Rocklea a few years later. In 1996 she was employed as operating manager, then later state manager for FCN Transport (who later became ARN Logistics) in Northgate where the biggest customer was APM Petrie. Coral resigned when Toll bought them out. Coral teamed up with her old friend of thirty years Tiger who had also been a Shepparton driver and today they travel two-up working for Lindsay Australia. Coral says she is lucky to have driven for two iconic companies. She was taught all she knows by the Phillips family and today she works at Lindsays who are great.
