Ronald Andrews Jnr

Ronald Andrews (Jnr) was born in August 1957 to a trucking family. When he finished school at 16 he took on a motor trimmer apprenticeship and learned how to upholster. Ron grew to love the trucks and heavy transports that he worked with and, when he finished his time, Ron took a job with Aztec Transport driving semi-trailers.

The call of the road was strong and Ron decided to go into business for himself. He left Aztec and purchased his own rigid Pantec and went sub-contracting for Caroma Products on country and local work. Truck driving was a job he found he had a natural aptitude for and made many friends along the highways he travelled.

Ron became ill in 1987; he went to his doctor who informed him he had cancer. He gave up the road for a while and after going into Westmead Hospital for an operation Ronald convalesced. The cancer eventually went into remission.

After leaving hospital, Ron drove for his father Ron Andrews (Snr) for about three years until the cancer returned. Ron (Snr) had been in the trucking industry his whole life and, when he bought his own business, worked doing container deliveries around the wharfs for primary for TNT. In 1970 he bought a 1418 Mercedes Benz to carry Streets Ice Cream all over the eastern states. The Andrews family went on to work for Streets Ice Cream for 28 years.

Ron went on to have many operations over the years but they were all to no avail. Ronald Andrews (Jnr) passed away on the 22nd of July 1991 when he was just 34 years old. He left behind his wife Jan and four children, and many friendships in the trucking industry which he had made his life.
