Ned Amezdroz
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2005.
The Colac cartage firm of Amezdroz and Son commenced in 1925 as general carriers, although it was then known as Amezdroz and Menzies.Tthe firm had actually been started by Ned Amezdroz's father, Reginald Amezdroz. One of family's first clients was Regal Cream, formerly known as Bulla Cream imagine hauling 29 cans of cream on a two tonne, "Federal Knight" tray truck. That was a daily task and it taught Ned how to drive.
Young Ned Amezdroz joined the business when he was just 17 years old and has stayed his entire working life with the company in number of different roles over the 57 year period. He started out in the business by operating a broom, and when his father thought he could handle that okay he was eventually allowed to drive a truck. Ned, along with his brother Bill, took over the reigns of the business in 1960 following the death of their father, Reg.
Under the leadership of Ned, the business flourished and became one of the leading carriers in the western Victoria district. In recent years the business has established itself as a leading logistics provider along the eastern seaboard with depots and other facilities in capital cities and regional centres. The company currently employs more than 250 people, and operates 280 trucks. It has an annual turnover of approximately $60 million and a 500-strong client base. New distribution centres have been established in Altona and Brisbane and the company is expanding it's depot infrastructure in Victoria and South Australia.
In addition to successfully running a business, Ned has been a member of the Victorian Transport Association for over 20 years, five of them as Chairman of the Hauler committee. He was also a member of the Australia Brick Association where he also served as chairman for 5 years.
In recent years, Ned has taken on the role of company ambassador, and his son, Brett, has stepped upto become the managing director. Today, Ned enjoys travelling with wife, Audrey, and his voluntary roles with the Hall of Fame, his Rotary Club and the local hospital.
