Barry Bedggood

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2015.

Barry Bedggood was born in Maffra Victoria in September 1951. Barry grew up on a dairy farm in Boysdale with his parents, brother and sister. He still lives in Boysdale which is a close neighbour of Maffra.

Barry’s first trucking job was driving for Jerry Fagan of Heyfield carting pulp to the Australian Paper Mill (APM). By the early 1970s he had decided trucking was the life for him and brought his first truck, a 1418 Mercedes Benz which he used to cart timber and sleepers all round Victoria and South Australia.

The first Bedggood depot was in a small yard in Boysdale but the business soon outgrew it. Bedggood now operates out of a depot in Maffra. Situated on the Macalister River, it is an hour’s drive of both from the mountains and Lake Glenmaggie to the north. It is the service centre for the rich Macalister dairying, pastoral and irrigation district, making it the ideal location for a trucking depot.

Barry Bedggood is known throughout the transport industry as a fair dinkum, dedicated and well disciplined operator who has operated his successful trucking business for nearly 45 years.

Over the years, Barry has bought 83 new Kenworth trucks. In 2015 there are 13 trucks travelling interstate on the eastern seaboard and 11 trucks carting from Maffra to Melbourne.

Today the Bedggood trucking business has over 30 employees. With his partner Jill, Barry is highly respected in the town. Barry plays an active role in the  local community sitting on many committees. He is also very generous in his support, to local clubs.
