Darrell Brown

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2010.

Darrell Brown started driving in the early 1950s with Reg Bartz carting grain, wool and  farm supplies, local and interstate in early model Chev and Commer trucks.

Darrell commenced driving with Western Transport in 1956. He worked in numerous divisions including interstate, oil fields work and heavy haulage. This work took him all over the eastern seaboard as well as South Australia, Northern Territory and through to Darwin

Summer was always a challenge on the Darwin run as the wet season often cut roads causing the drivers to be stranded for days. Darrell never travelled far without his trusty tucker box that was always well stocked. The mateships formed from these days are still strong. After Bell Bros. bought Western Transport he remained there as a driver until asked to take long service. It was at this time that he talked with a friend, Neil Mansell, who offered him a couple of week's work. Darrell ended up working with Neil Mansell Transport for 27 years covering all corners of Australia with anything that would fit on a trailer. A lot of these trips were done on roads that barely resembled goat tracks but good bush mechanical skills and trucking know-how always worked.

Darrell retired in 2000 but he still has a steer from time to time with Neil Mansell Transport, Paehaul Pty Ltd, and anyone who needs an experienced hand.
