Lynnette Baskett

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2021.

Lynnette Philomena Baskett was born in Augathella, Queensland , the only child of  Les and Phyllis Jarvis. Lyn spent her younger years in the Augathella area.

Lyn married Bill Baskett on 6th January 1968 in Toowoomba, Queensland, and they were blessed with the birth of their son, Gavin, in October that year. 

Her husband, Bill, owned and operated a F700 tipper by which he carted gravel for Queensland Main Roads. The young family moved around to wherever the work took them which saw Lyn and young Gavin live in many harsh and isolated areas.

Numerous trucks were bought along the way but in the later part of 1970, Bill and Lyn decided to buy a B-Model Mack with a Dickinson Crate and then a White 4000. This was the start of Lyn’s long association with livestock cartage throughout far Western Queensland, the Northern Territory and the top end of Western Australia.    

In 1975, Bill and Lyn moved to Toowoomba and began carting general freight into Darwin, primarily with building material which was in heavy demand in the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy.  They also supplied flour to the Darwin Bakery. Lyn’s focus was now  in the administration side of the business.

Around this time, Lyn re-ignited her love for race horses which she had acquired from her beloved father, Les.  Lyn had been an accomplished jockey in her younger years and she went on to qualify as a horse trainer.  Lyn would load up her many horses and drive them daily to the Toowoomba Turf Club for early morning track work. On race days Lyn would transport her horses to various tracks to compete. 

Lyn continues to remain passionate  about and involved in the  horse racing industry. Fair to say, after years of hard work and sacrifices made while working in the transport Industry, Lyn is doing what makes her happy.
