Malcolm Bolch

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2011.

Malcolm Bolch (Mal) was born in Korumburra on November 25th 1934.  He left school at 14 to work in a wood yard before joining his father bricklaying.  He was not very enthusiastic about this type of work and was always watching the trucks driving past.  His dad finally said to him Why don't you go and drive the bloody things?So, that is what he did!  Mal started driving the next day for Rickards Transport, before moving onto interstate transport with Dunnings, then onto Southern Milk Transport.

He purchased his first truck, an Albion with a concrete agitator in 1959, which, unfortunately he crashed.  He then moved into tip trucks for a while, before purchasing a log truck in 1962, which he operated throughout Marysville and Matlock in Victoria.  In 1963, he purchased a 160 International, which was the beginning of his interstate trucking company.  In 1964, he purchased a second International.  Later that year, his brother Ron joined him, and together they formed one of the most highly respected trucking companies, Bolch Transport, which operated for over 30 years.  Over this period he purchased over 100 trucks of different makes and models.

Bolch Transport started carting glass for Pilkington ACI in the 1970s and went onto become one of the largest interstate float glass companies. Mal employed over 100 people during these years and was well respected throughout the industry.He had many trucks of different makes and models over the years, but still had a preference for Mack trucks, which made up most of the fleet.

When the company wound down in the early nineties, Mal still continued to drive trucks part time.

Mal had over 50 years in the transport industry, which was his true passion in life.
