Michael Buxton

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2012.

Michael Neil Buxton was born in Sale, Victoria, on the 26 September 1956. He went to school at St Joseph's Primary School in Maffra, Victoria and Maffra High School and often accompanied his father, Eddie Buxton, on interstate trips and around Victoria. In 1971 Eddie joined the Shell Company of Australia and was transferred to Dubbo, NSW.  Michael was just 15 years old at the time and enjoyed travelling around regional NSW with his father.

When he left school Michael secured a job at a Shell Service Station in Dubbo and later joined the NSW Government Railways. In 1974, when his father was transferred with the Shell Company to Newport in Victoria, Michael went with him. He was 18 years old but the bright lights of the city didn't appeal to him and within weeks he returned to Dubbo securing a job with Thompson Bros Transport hauling livestock throughout NSW and Qld.

Michael later drove hauling livestock for Dickinson Livestock Transport and the Walkers Transport Group both of which were based in Dubbo. He was still moving livestock around the same area as he did with Thompson Bros. When Michael obtained a roadtrain licence he did trips as far away as Alice Springs to haul livestock back to Dubbo and to haul crude oil from Jackson, Qld to the Mooney Refinery. After requesting a break from the road Michael spent the next six months in the Walker Transport workshop assisting with the maintenance of heavy vehicles before returning to driving for another couple of years.

Michael has relocated to Melbourne and built a new home in the northern suburbs. In the past few years he has switched from livestock to general freight. He has worked for Rod Pilon from Dubbo and Hi Trans from Sydney and for the past three years he has been driving B-Doubles for K&S Freighters based in Mt Gambier, South Australia.

Michael works out of the Melbourne depot carrying goods interstate to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and quite regularly to Mt Gambier. Michael is known as a hard and loyal worker and a reliable operator. He has held a roadtrain licence since before B-Doubles were introduced to Victoria and has over thirty five years of driving experience to date.

Michael comes from a real trucking family. His father Eddie and brother David are also Shell Rimula Wall of Fame inductees. Michael is married with four daughters, one son and eight grandchildren.
