Kevin Cartwright
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2012.
Kevin Cartwright, known as KC, Grumblebum or GB, has dedicated over 40 years of his life to services on the road. Employed with Whiteline Transport since October 1985 Kevin has driven over 14 million kilometres, safely and efficiently, across the Eyre Highway. He has been with Whiteline Transport for over 26 years and has witnessed many changes in both the company and the industry in that time.
Kevin also juggled the raising of his three sons, part of the time as a single father living in Adelaide. He drove the Adelaide to Perth run before swapping to the Melbourne to Perth run. In 1997 he decided to move to Perth to live. His employers at Whiteline Transport were able to accommodate this move through implementing Perth to the border changeovers. Known as a true gentleman of the road Kevin was always at the ready to assist remote communities and roadhouses with deliveries of urgent supplies enroute.
While his career commenced in an era where 'old school practices' existed, Kevin soon learnt that if he wanted a long term career in the industry he would need to embrace change and compliance as audited schemes were introduced and increased regulation became a way of life. From 1998 through to his retirement in 2011 Kevin was a professional driver for his employer's company which subscribed to Trucksafe and WA Main Road's National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS), Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) and Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) audited schemes.
It is not surprising that in 2008 Kevin was awarded winner of the South Australian Road Transport Driver of the Year and went on to win the National Driver of the Year at the Australian Trucking Association Awards Ceremony in Canberra in the same year. In 2011 Kevin was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Transport Certificate from the WA Road Transport Association. Kevin has used these awards and his wide experience in the industry to encourage and mentor others in the industry.
Kevin is well deserving of his induction into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame, not only for the millions of kilometres he has driven safely in the rain, fog and sunshine but for his commitment to customer service, his fellow drivers and the trucking community in general.
