Tony Conlon

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2006.

Tony Conlon has worked within the road transport industry for over 50 years.  Tony, with his father, started a transport business back in 1954 with one truck and working from home.  They quickly built up the business, soon needing to purchase more trucks.  Little did Tony know at the time how this would change his life?
Tony's two sons are the third generation of Conlons to work in the family business and have done so for 20 years.The business is called M.J. Conlon & Sons and operates from a depot at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.  M.J. Conlon was Tony's father and worked with Tony in the business until his death, passing away in Tony's arms at the Eagle Farm depot in 1979.  Tony continued on in the business in how own right for another 10 years before his two sons got involved.  MJ Conlon & Son specialised in local Brisbane metropolitan cartage and today predominantly are waterfront carriers transporting shipping containers, aluminium and steel plate and coil to customers around the Brisbane area, some of whom have been customers for over 30 years.  In the early days of the development of the trucking business Tony spent many a long hour designing and making equipment and trailers with his bare hands.  Quite often he worked on weekends when could have been home spending time with his six children and his wife Rosemary.Tony had made many a sacrifice in his life as a transport operator, not just for the benefit of his business but the benefit of the transport industry as a whole.  He has lobbied local, state and federal governments and institutions for the betterment of the industry.  To this day Tony remains a well-respected and well-informed trucking operator.  The road transport industry is literally in his blood.  He lives and breathes it every day of this life and continues to play an active role in industry associations
