Gary Collins
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2016.
Gary Collins (GC) started in the road transport industry at the tender age of fifteen at Seaton's Brooklyn where his father 'Billy Wheels' was the Operations Manager. Gary operated the bowser and loaded the trucks. By the time he was 17 Gary had become the foreman at All Trans, part of the TNT Group, loading, performing operations and controlling staff. At 18 Gary worked at Featherstone's in Brunswick. He later managed Golden Fleece on Kings Way Melbourne and on the Hume Hwy in Campbellfield. By the time he was 19 he had built his first FC Panelvan which he used for courier work with TNT Air Couriers as the night manager in Nth Melbourne.
It wasn't long before he was running an interstate courier service carting TNT air freight by road, in one tonne Holdens from Melbourne to Sydney. When he gained contracts with Kwikasair and Comet his fleet grew to twelve 6 wheel 1 tonners operating seven days. As the business grew the Holdens were replaced with rigid vehicles; eventually operating fifty throughout all states. Gary sold his depot in Cranbourne in 1988 and purchased and moved 'Collins Road Express' to the new property. In 1990 he formed 'Collins Racing' motorsport.
In 1995 Gary started formed 'Intercapital Express Australia Pty Ltd' (ICE) with depots in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. In 1998 'Protrack Automotive' was established as a mechanical repair business. In the 1990's ICE introduced Western Star semi trailers and B Doubles were into the fleet and soon after expanded into premises in Dandenong. The larger premise was needed to accommodate the growing customer base and need for storage, vehicle parking and a heavy vehicle workshop. In 2016 Intercapital Express was awarded 'Best Interstate Door To Door Service In Australia' by Insider Magazine.
In 2016, at age 61, Gary Collins has accomplished his lifetime goal of having an extensive transport business. He has been awarded National and Victorian Championships in Historic Touring Cars and HQ racing and currently competes with his Jack Daniel's V8 Supercar. He has also incorporated Collins Go Kart Racing for his children and grandchildren.
