Chevrolet Maple Leaf

History of this Vehicle:

This truck was donated by Will Bailey AO from Melbourne, who went to considerable effort to restore it after he found it on a farm, rusting away under a tree in Woodside, SA.

The vehicle was a one owner truck when he purchased it from Martin Bretag, whose father had purchased it new in 1938. The axle had been used on a farm trailer for some years. The vehicle was totally dismantled and refurbished from the ground up. Allan Moffat of motor racing fame and Wooton’s Hills Truck Centre carried out much of the restoration work. The timber body was restored by Vawdry Australia (thanks to the good offices of Lindsay Fox). Its original motor was fully reconditioned, and the rest of the mechanicals have been overhauled or replaced and the upholstery refurbished
