Barry Davidson

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2010.

Barry Davidson was born 23rd December 1945. He started in the transport industry at the age of 16 loading and unloading freight for Ansett transport industries in Melbourne.

Barry started interstate driving in 1964 for Dawson Trading Northcote driving a Commer with a single axle strap trailer from Melbourne to Sydney.  He then drove an International R190 for Binns Carting Company NSW.  In 1968 he began driving a Deutz for Zaffy from Melbourne to Perth when the 'paddock' had 300 miles of dirt to Norseman. He also drove a Thames Trader for Mayne Nickless on Melbourne local.

Barry has held many jobs throughout the industry: Fleet Express, Eastoes, Fast Freight, Mal Clayton, Ron Bunker Freight Lines. He has driven various prime-movers over the years: Commer, Kenworth, Atkinson, Mack  and International Transtar.

In 1980 he took the big step and bought his own truck starting with a Ford F8000 then a D-series Ford, Ford Louisville and Kenworth T600. He retired from the industry in 2010 after making a lot of good mates with whom he still keeps in touch and shares a great lot of the memories and good times had by all.
