Vern Dick

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2005.

On January 4th 1955 Vern Dick started his career driving a Fargo with a 22 ft semi-trailer for Sweets Transport of Bacchus Marsh hauling beer from Melbourne breweries to hotels in the Melton and Bacchus Marsh areas. He also carted general freight for three years giving him invaluable experience in loading, securing and tarping.

He drove a coal truck for Maddingley Brown Coal Mine for a while and for P.E. Shelly.  He also carted tomatoes from local market gardens to H.J. Heinz, Dandenong.In January 1962 Vern bought his first truck, an A.A. 180 International with a 34ft. bogie trailer and carted for Brambles from Melbourne to Adelaide. By mid 1963, with a new R190 International truck, he was towing tankers for Mayne Nickless. In May 1967 he purchased a 760 Dodge to cart GMH parts and supplies for DJ & JW Toll Transport.In January 1974 Vern was carting   minerals from SN Rodda in Gillman to Melbourne for WR Ringwood Transport.

In Jan 1977 Vern bought a K125 Kenworth with a Barker tri-axle trailer and with loading agents Kidd & Sartori, carted for most carriers out of Melbourne. He retained his contact with WR Ringwood carting minerals and wool from Adelaide until 2002.From then he retired from interstate and after selling his trailer, he purchased a Krueger with container pins and started carting coal and potting mix. For the last 12 months of his career, prior to retiring in January 2005, Vern subied  for M G. Barnes at Hoppers  Crossing doing container work to and from the Melbourne wharf.
