Craig Duncan

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2016.

Craig Duncan was an only child for Alfred and Elizabeth. His entry into the world was not as planned; with his 'unscheduled and slightly inconvenient' early arrival during the weekly dart competition. The son of a truckie, it was inevitable that young Craig would develop an early and intense interest in trucks and road transport. His first interstate trip was at the age of 2 ½ when barely out of nappies. Craig accompanied his father on a trip for Billy George carting freight Sydney - Brisbane Melbourne Brisbane Melbourne Sydney.

As each year passed, Craig spent weekends and school holidays travelling Australia with his father. By the time he was 12, Craig was reversing Dad's Road Commander and Craig's career path was soon obvious to all his family. However, first he wanted to secure a trade so Craig spent his afternoons after school at TNT, cleaning tools and sweeping floors. As a result, as soon as he was old enough, he secured an apprenticeship with TNT as diesel mechanic a trade which certainly came in handy in the years following.

Craig also spent a number of years in the Army Reserve during which he obtained his road train licence at the age of 19. Owning his own truck was always a dream. As soon as he was able, Craig purchased a Flintstone Mack and found work subbying for Trend Transport hauling sections of the Collins class submarine between Sydney and Adelaide.

Throughout the 1990's Craig did solo and two up trips across the country working for John Klein Transport, Australian Overnight Trucking (John Stark) and Showfreight. With the arrival of son Jordan (2000) and daughter Aliyah (2002), Craig opted to stay on the Eastern seaboard, delivering aviation fuel for Monaro Fuel Haulage, before taking a job with BP (Westoil) delivering fuel across Sydney and NSW.

In 2016 Craig is still doing local work in Sydney; currently working for a national express company. However, he eagerly takes up every opportunity for work that allows him to get out on the open highway.
