Bob Dodd

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2006.
In 1957 a young Bob arrived in Alice Springs.  His first job was as a fencer.  In 1958 Bob turned 21 and started working for Don Toddy carting cars from Alice to the rail head at Larrimah.

He stayed with Don until a job turned up with Co-Ord working for Noel Buntine and Alan Allwright.  This was carting freight from Alice to Larrimah.  In 1960 Bob moved to Katherine and began carting cattle for the legendary Noel Buntine.  He worked between Wyndham and Katherine for two seasons.

While carting out of Wyndham he had the good fortune to meet his wife, Norma.  Norma was on a driving holiday with a friend and they had run out of water between Wyndham and Kununurra.  Being the good fellow that he was, Bob stopped and helped out and the rest is history.  Bob married Norma in 1963 and they have had a long and happy marriage.  He moved back to the Alice in 1965 and ran Buntine Freightways for Noel carting freight.  During this time he purchased his own truck, a B61 single drive.  He moved back to Katherine and worked as a sub-contractor carting cattle to Katherine and Wyndham Meatworks.  At this time Bob was road boss of Buntine's trucks.  

In 1975 Bob purchased a depot and garage in Emungalen Road, Katherine.  He retired from cattle transporting and expanded the fleet and fuel depot.  Bob worked in his business until retirement onto a mango farm in Katherine.  Bob and Norma sold this farm in 2006 and are now happy travellers enjoying life but still often helping their son-in-law out at the family transport business, G&S Transport, in Alice Springs.  Bob today enjoys working part-time for Bob Holt at the sand plant.
