Lloyd Davies

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2005.

Lloyd Davies, together with his wife Evelyn, has been in the trucking industry for nearly 50 years, owning up to five trucks at any one time. During that time he has owned approximately 45 trucks of just about every size, shape and marque and has driven many more.

He has had a long and varied career in trucking and was based in the small country town of Terang in southwest Victoria where he and Evelyn raised their three children. Lloyd typifies the diversity of the country town haulier. During his time in Terang he carted fuel to his depot as well as doing deliveries around the town and taking supplies to, and produce from, the local farming properties. At the same time he owned a freight centre where he delivered goods locally for other trucking companies. Lloyd has literally hauled everything from livestock, hay and fuel to produce and general freight on both local and interstate deliveries.

Lloyd's holidays were spent taking his K124 Kenworth, with a Caterpillar 3408, to various truck shows. Another holiday, in his truck, was spent participating in the Melbourne to Sydney BP economy run where he came in 2nd to a half tonne Suzuki. Lloyd was also one of the operators who were asked to road test super singles (tyres) in early 1984. Lloyd and Evelyn finally sold their business in Terang in 1993 and moved to Ocean Grove with the intention of going fishing. While the fishing was good Lloyd found the call of the road was stronger and with the realisation that trucking was better he took on part-time driving for different trucking companies. He now drives for the City of Greater Geelong.
