Colin Evans
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2014.
Colin Evans was born in Donald, Victoria in 1955. Col, as he likes to be called, is the oldest son of Norman and Dorothy Evans who operated a small family carrying business. Colin was destined to become a truck driver just like his father. At the age of 14, Col would sneak out of the house and hide up inside the top deck of his Dad's stock truck, which would be heading for Queensland. Colin would be on the road for weeks at a time with his father, and as a result missed out on a lot of schooling.
One of Colin's first jobs as a 17 year old, was with the legendary Noel Buntine in Alice Springs. He worked in the yard changing tyres, loading and unloading the road trains and sneaking a quick drive around their yard if no-one was looking. Colin just couldn't believe how big the road trains were and loved them from that moment on. In 1975, at the age of 19 Col bought his first truck, a 1418 Mercedes Benz and hauled trailers for Cubico usually out of Melbourne where Colin Evans Transport is base.
.Diesel runs throughout the Evan's family veins with over 100 years of experiences between them all. Col's father Norm has over 60 years of trucking history, his youngest brother Gary has over 30 years of road train experience and Col's son Simon has his own transport business in Melbourne also. Over the past 35 years of being in the trucking industry, Col has owned and operated many different makes of trucks including Mack, White, Western Stars and Kenworths to name just a few.
Col travels the long roads that crisscross the country side now in his 2011 model, 4900 Western Star with a 620 Cummins, pulling a road train, and his K-104 B Aerodyne Kenworth with a C-15, 550hp Cat, pulling a B-double, hauling general freight, mining equipment and anything anyone challenges him to haul.
During Col's time on the road he has covered tens of thousands of kilometres and has a lifetime of fond memories and friends from travelling on our outback roads of Australia.
