Clayton Edson

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2010.

In 1979 Clayton was 17 years old when he drove an 8 tonne, refrigerated 1314 D-series Ford interstate for the very first time. He loved it.

By the time he was 18 he's graduated to a semi running Melbourne to Perth return and eventually, with fresh produce from South Australia to Brisbane and returnon a regular basis hauling refrigerated goods.

May 1990 saw the company sold. Clayton then drove for Cleveland Freightliners from Adelaide to Perth to Sydney for a little over two years. The inconvenience of an Adelaide depot saw him change to a local company, Hahn's Haulage, and for the next seven and a half years he drove semis and B-double wine tankers covering most wine districts in Australia to and from the Barossa with fresh, crushed grape juice to fully mature wines for blending and bottling. When Hahn's Haulage was sold Clayton transferred to Linke Contractors, a local company freighting gypsum from their quarry at Blanchetown to most of the rural areas of the state and beyond.

Clayton qualified for a dangerous goods licence at Shell, Geelong and freighted bitumen to various road works and depots in Victoria, South Australia and to the Northern Territory including carting bitumen from Townsville to road works on the Barkly Highway towards Borroloola, Katherine to Timber Creek and towards Kununurra. When this contract ended he did a regular run from Adelaide to Brisbane with dangerous goods and fertilisers ect. Due to ill health, September, 2005 saw Clayton give up interstate driving and take leave so that he could regain his health.

In mid 2006 Clayton went back to driving but was mostly doing local work for Robinvale Transport with the occasional roadtrain changeovers to Broken Hill and return. Clayton Edson is now currently working as the Compliance and Training Officer for Harris Refrigerated Transport which has incorporated Robinvale Transport.
