Rick & Vicki Foote

Rick Foote's father drove a Ford tipper building the Willmington Pass in South Australia, and then he had his own truck travelling three times a week to Orrorroo with general freight. This was Rick's first experience with transport. He loved to go with his dad.

Vicki had a friend who was like an adopted dad, Sam Stapleton. He worked for Bunkers Adelaide running Adelaide to Brisbane in a Ford LNT doing mostly TNT work. He taught Vicki to drive.

When Big John Jongsma (Rondon Transport) was looking for an offsider, Sam gave him Vicki's phone number and John and his wife Robbie hired her. This was carting margarine from Brisbane to Adelaide and Robinvale with produce back to Brisbane. They then started doing produce out of north Queensland to the Sydney and Melbourne markets, with Comit, Kwikasair and Ansett freight to wherever they were loaded. They drove a Mack ultraliner.

Vicki then shared the driving with her ex-partner for eight years at Cleveland Transport. She then worked for Mick Travalos doing Nhill changeovers and Melbourne. Vicki then went to First Fleet doing Nhill and Hay changeovers.

Vicki met Rick while washing her truck at Eddie Holland's yard. He was working for Eddie driving an ex-Shell Mack and then the Eddyliner. Vicki was offered a job with Baldock Transport from Ceduna, driving a Scania pulling B-doubles to Port Augusta five days a week and servicing her truck on Saturdays.

After they were married in 1999 rick and Vicki tried driving two up and have stayed working as a team ever since, first with Thompson's Transport then with HPS running west. Rick wanted to get back on a Darwin run so they went to Jeff Gilbert until he closed the company. They then went to Darwin Line Haul, ASF and finally Peter Gilbert where they still work.
