Robert Glenn

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2014.

Robert Glenn (Berrima Bob) started driving trucks in 1963 at the age of 17 helping his brother driving a small truck carting freight around the local district. This had him hooked. Ever since, his life has been devoted to the transport industry and this is evident by the many friends he has made up and down the road.

Over the years Bob has owned a number of trucks. His first was a pre 1970's International Acco with a Perkins motor which he used to cart hay locally before moving on to carting interstate. His most memorable truck was his 1982 Mack Cruise liner and very favourite was his 2003 Kenworth K104 which is still being worked. Robert has always been an owner operator, and together with his wife Sue, has run Berrima Transport for 51 years. To this day their three children still joke about family holidays having to involve travelling in the truck to where ever a load may be available.

Bob's love of his occupation has taken him across Australia. one of the highlights of his working days include carting equipment for the oil rigs at Barry's Beach and to central Australia for the gas fields. Bob started driving interstate in the early 1970s. For the past 25 years Berrima Bob has sub-contracted to TNT and is currently do- ing the Sydney to Melbourne run. He has done more miles than any other driver for the company.

Bob has witnessed many changes over the years. Technology has made driving more comfortable and Bob believes this is alone is the biggest change to the industry during his driving career. The biggest downside has been the decline in the camaraderie and mateship on the road along with the additional pressure of log books and load and time regulations on drivers. Berrima Bob was featured in volume 1, #12, 1978 edition of Australian Trucking Life in a story about the life of a truck driver. The article was titled 'A hard day's night.' He later featured in an article written for a Dutch magazine FNV magazine 29th August 1987.

Bob is well known and respected for his commitment, loyalty and mateship for his fellow drivers and the industry he loves.
