Philip Goodman

Phillip Goodman has been involved with the trucking and transportation industry all his life. He started out as an apprentice truck mechanic for the Longwarry butter factory at the age of 15 in 1962. He then decided, upon receiving his Certificate of Proficiency, to get behind the wheels of the tankers he was repairing and drove them on weekends collecting milk from farms to earn an extra income.
In 1968 he moved to a well-known local transport company, Mansons Transport, and worked as their workshop mechanic and part-time driver for two years.
In 1970, and for the following 27 years, Phil was a mechanic and then workshop manager for Woods & Reeves of Warragul, an International dealership. He then moved to their newly opened Volvo dealership. During this time he also purchased his first truck. One job was never enough for his passion for the industry.
During Phil's extensive years spent repairing trucks and with the purchase of his first truck in 1980 he became heavily involved in the local logging industry with, at one period of time, owning and running 4 log cartage trucks. He started in the logging industry with the purchase of a 1977 UD CW 50 bogie drive truck and jinker, with a V8 water cooled engine and Road-ranger gearbox. He then went on to replace this with a F12 Volvo and brand new tri-axle jinker, which in turn was replaced by a 1981 W-model Kenworth purchased from a mate. A 1988 Western Star, a Kenworth T401 and a brand new Iveco Powerstar followed.
In 1998 Phil decided to open his own heavy duty truck repair workshop in Drouin known today as Goodcar Truck Repairs. With future changes to the logging industry Phil decided to move out of self-owned and operated trucks and is now heavily involved running his workshop. With over 5 employees servicing, repairing and offering Truck Roadworthy Certificates there isn't much Phil doesn't know about trucks. In the local trucking community Phil is renowned for his experience and expertise.
Phil has kept his 1981 W-model Kenworth with the ambition to restore it to its former glory in the not-too-distant future.
