Barry Heuzenroeder
Barry Heuzenroeder was born in September 1951 in Barmera South Australia. Throughout his childhood, his family lived on fruit properties, and later at the back of a family operated service station in Glossop, so he has been around trucks, tractors and cars from a very early age.
When Barry left school in 1967 he joined his Father Woop in the family fuel distribution business. They delivered fuel and oil to properties throughout the Riverland area. This was not an easy task back then when 44 gallon drums were manually loaded and unloaded. In 1973 Barry took control of the distribution business, the same year that he married his wife Veronica, and continued to run it successfully for the following two years.
In January 1976, Barry commenced his Coach Driving Career with Pendle's Coachline based in Renmark South Australia. This was the beginning of a 30 year career with the company as a full time Coach Captain. Pendle's Coachline was purchased by Stateliner Pty Ltd (including Greyhound Southern Coaches) in 1978, which was then purchased by Premier Roadlines Pty Ltd in 1991.
Barry mainly drove the Riverland / Adelaide route which changed dramatically over the years, as did the towns that were serviced along the way, which included Morgan, Sedan, Swan Reach and the Barossa Valley. Barry was known as Half Track by many of his work mates, whilst Heuz and Glossop Barry were also nicknames that he received over the years. In 1987 Barry assisted his younger brother Terry into the coach driving field, who also joined Stateliner as a Full Time Coach Captain in the same year. In 2006 Barry retired from full time Coach Driving, but remains a relief driver for Premier Roadlines.
Today Barry is still working on the road, delivering urgent blood supplies for IMVS Pathology around the Riverland and surrounding area. Barry's happy and friendly nature and exceptional people skills make him an excellent Coach Captain, who until this very day loves the work he does.
