Noel Hoare
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.
Noel Hoare started his trucking career helping his dad drive the family's old 4 tonne Austin on the soldier settlement block in Yarrowitch. In 1957 the Austin was traded and a new Ford F600 was purchased. Noel, although he didn't have a licence, carted for the local farmers. When he got older he took on transporting to Tamworth saleyards and Macksville abattoirs. During the following years Noel did stints of driving for his uncle, Stan Day, of Day Transport in Narrandera.
When Noel married Susanne Mary Erratt in 1966 they purchased a second hand Ford K700 series tray body truck and stock crate to cart everything from livestock and hay to bricks. Later trucks included an AB182 International powered by a 120hp Perkins, an AB184 powered by a Cummins and a 1974 Volvo G88 which made a big improvement on sleeping on the seat with legs hanging out the door. Noel and Mary also took on the Caltex Fuel agency. In the 1980s Noel and other carriers formed the Livestock Transporters Association of NSW and a few years later the Australian Livestock Transporters Association. In 1988 Noel was appointed to the Road Freight Advisory Council. Noel was very active in all these organisations including being deputy chairman of the LTA NSW and president of the ALTA.
In 1994 he was presented with life membership of the ALTA and awarded for outstanding contribution to the Australian Livestock Transport Industry. Noel was also a director on the board of the Road Transport Forum. Noel Hoare has spent many years promoting the industry he loves so much and has worked in all his life. His proudest moment was at the ATA Conference in Brisbane 2000 when he was awarded the industries highest accolade For Outstanding Contribution To The Australian Trucking Industry. This award shows just how much Noel Hoare is well-known and respected amongst his peers in the road transport industry. Today Noel Hoare Transport operates a fleet of eight trucks with a modern depot in Walcha.
On the 30th June 2009 Noel and Mary handed the business that they have operated for the last 43 years over to son Graeme and their son-in-law Scott. Noel and Mary are now semi-retired whilst Noel is proud that son Graeme is involved in the association work currently as the deputy chair of the LBCA NSW.
