John (Jock) Hart

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2011.
John (Jock) Hart bought his first truck in 1956, a green A5 Bedford tipper. He has owned many trucks: marques such as Albion, Leyland and Volvo. His total number of trucks is 65. His favourite is the Leader with its fibreglass cab and CAT motor.
Hart Brothers was established in 1965 and is very much a family business to this day.  Jock, the owner, works full time with his son Gary, as director and grandsons Anthony and Darren. The three generations work well together and are proud, active sponsors in their local community.
Jock Hart pioneered the truck transporting of gypsum from the lake at Inneston to the washing plant at Stenhouse Bay in South Australia. This proved much faster than the rail system. Hart Bros founders, Jock and younger brother George worked for Waratah Gypsum from 1958 until 1973. This involved a four truck operation, 24/7, working double shifts when short of drivers. Hart's 1950s Bedford and Albion trucks, from 1960 to 1963, carted over 1,000,000 tons of gypsum.Since 1974 Jock has been sub-contracting for Transport SA and has worked on almost every major road in SA. Hart Bros of Warooka continues as a trucking and earthmoving business employing 17 men, carting anything anywhere including dirt, metal, grain, super, water or rubbish. No job is too big or too small for Hart Brothers. The biggest move involved transporting a shearing shed from Stansbury to Jock's farm at Warooka. The 80ft. by 30ft. shed took up the entire width of the road.Jock has had much sadness with the death of his brother George in 1968, his 2 sons in 1976 and 1980, and his wife of 42 years, Doris, in 1999. Jock has taught many men to drive trucks and has imparted life skills to others in the transport business. Many of these men have become great truck drivers and starting their own businesses. Jock, now aged 77 and still trucking, says Make the load pay.
