Garry Higginson

Garry Higginson has been around buses all his life. He first went to Alice Springs at the age of nine on a tour with his father Ray and has since had a passion to explore Australia and share his experiences and knowledge with his passengers.

Garry left school in 1978 and started working full time at Moonee Valley Bus Lines (a family business) in 1979. He started an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic, qualifying in 1983. Garry started driving in 1981, doing local transfers and five day tours. In 1982 he drove his first tour to Central Australia. In the late 1980s and through to the early 1990s he started to go further afield travelling to Darwin, Kakadu, Birdsville, Innamincka, the Kimberley and the Tanami Desert.

In the mid 1990s through to the mid 2000s he had a regular group of passengers who wanted to see as much of Australia as they could. So Garry embarked on tours that travelled the length and breadth of Australia, Cape York, the Atherton Tablelands, Gulf of Carpentaria, Cameron's Corner, the West Coast, Nullarbor and the real Gunbarrell Highway just to name a few.

Garry is a long standing member of the Australian Long Distance Experienced Coach Crew and a long time member of the Bus Association Victoria. From mid 2000 Garry has slowed down touring and the company doesn't operate tours as often, however they still do a couple of trips each year, the most regular being Birdsville. Moonee Valley Bus Lines operate 30 vehicles in total which is made up of school and metropolitan services as well as a fleet of coaches for school and group charter. Moonee Valley Bus Lines will celebrate 50 years of business in 2016 which will be a proud moment for the family and a great achievement.

These days Moonee Valley Bus Lines is still a family concern run by Garry, his wife Frances and their son Daniel who works full time as well as their other sons Timothy and Joshua who have both worked part time.
