Rod Hannifey

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Rod Hannifey started work in the transport industry at 15, drove his first road train at 16 and got his semi licence at 17 years of age. He drove local and interstate for Frigmobile for the next 2 years and then for Brisbane Container Park for the following 12 years. In 1992 Rod started driving B-double fuel tankers and eventually became involved in road safety with the 'Caravan Survey' in 1997. In 1998 he did a survey in Finemores and Owner Driver Magazine for the Truckies Top Ten Tips. He went from here into Highway Truck Auditing which he continued to do annually.

Rod also started doing segments on ABC Early Morning Radio on safe driving on the roads with trucks. This really grew and developed into segments on many radio stations over the years including Regional and National Radio and in different ABC programs. Rod worked with all the Dubbo area high schools to develop a Sharing the Road with Trucks section for the Safe Driving Video which is now used in at least 60% of Australian high schools. He also fitted in the 1999 National Sharing the Road with Trucks Program and started writing articles for many newspapers and magazines both in Australia and USA.

In 2001 Rod won the Australian Trucking Association National Professional Driver of the Year Award and since then various other awards. As well as continuing all this work he visited and set up road safety displays and conducted seminars in many places for trucking organizations, caravan clubs and campervan and motor home clubs, eg. the CMCA. 2008 saw Rod driving a TRUCKRIGHT Industry Vehicle (TIV) which was the worlds' first B-double to be fitted with road monitoring software that registers and records road irregularities. Over the year Rod did many trips collecting data and promoting road safety within the industry and other road-using clubs and organisations.

Rod is dedicated to road safety and is still working with governmental bodies, industry organisations, RV clubs, schools and anyone else who is interested in making our roads a safe place for us all to share.
