Paul Johnston

Paul Johnston was born in Dandenong, Victoria. From a very young age Paul wanted to be a truck driver like his dad Graeme. He often went on trips with Graeme in his truck and enjoyed helping wash and maintain the vehicle.  Paul became a qualified diesel mechanic after leaving secondary school. This knowledge and experience certainly helped Paul become successful in the trucking industry.  He worked as a diesel mechanic for some time then obtained his truck licence.
Paul drove interstate in a 1976 Atkinson prime-mover and flat top trailer carrying rolls of paper and general freight, then a cab-over Kenworth and a 1976 Atkinson tipper with tipping dog trailer. Freight included wood chips, pine bark and garden mulch.  Paul then purchased his own 1977 Atkinson prime-mover and McGrath flat top trailer and transported wood chips and sawn timber interstate.
In 1988 a new Kenworth T401 replaced the old Atkinson.  Paul worked as a subcontractor hauling over-dimensional freight Australia wide. Most loads required escort vehicles and Paul was often away for lengthy periods.  Needing a change, Paul purchased a log trailer and hauled softwood logs in Victoria.
He then returned to the over-dimensional work as before, this time in a 1996 Freightliner FLC112.  This vehicle was replaced in 2006 by a new Freightliner Argosy and the over-dimensional work continued until mid 2009.  Paul has run the Argosy interstate with his own B-double combination carrying general freight and it is also used in the logging industry.
Over the years Paul has owned and operated two other truck and trailer combinations: a 1999 Nissan UD and a 1990 Mitsubishi.  Both vehicles transported caravans, boats, etc to various interstate destinations. During Paul's trucking experience to date he has travelled many thousands of kilometres and hauled a huge variety of freight Australia wide.
