Bart (Boss) Jones

Bart (Boss) Jones Senior was born in 1935 in Kalgoorlie, WA and raised on Hampton Hill Station 30km east of town. Affectionately known as Boss to all who knew him, he was a dedicated family man and included in his family everyone who worked for his company.
In 1977, while managing the family sheep station through a tough drought, he co-founded Hampton Transport Services with his brothers to carry their own and neighbour's sheep to help the station survive.A Scania 111, painted in Swedish national colours, complete with matching stock crate, was the first truck, and now the blue and yellow Hampton colours are seen Australia wide.Boss pioneered the use of two-way radios in his station vehicles and trucks in the late 70s, believing communication was imperative for anyone in remote areas. Boss embraced new technology as it arrived, radios giving way to satellite phones at the earliest opportunity. This innovative spirit continued throughout the development of the Hampton Group with developments in livestock and tipper trailer design for their customers a particular priority. The acquisition of Katanning Livestock (now Hampton Livestock Transport) in 1993 and Road Trains of Australia (RTA) in 2006, and the creation of Hampton Mining and Civil Services in 2003 saw the company become one of the largest privately owned transport and mining services companies in WA. The combined group now has over 150 prime-movers plus ancillary equipment, and whilst the Hampton head office remains in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, offices are maintained in Perth, Geraldton, Broome, Darwin, Katherine, Mt Isa, Quilpie and Longreach. The Company is still totally family owned and is now managed by Boss' two sons, with Boss' wife Nellie and two daughters running the administration side. Boss was still an active director of the company prior to his passing in October 2006.
