Alan Jenkins

Alan Lindsay Jenkins was born in Adelaide in 1944. Alan worked as a tool maker and a paper making machinery estimator for Perry Engineering in Adelaide for 35 years retiring in 1994.

Alan took his first trip to the Northern Territory during the early 60s spending time following his passion for photography taking photos of Australian road transport mainly road trains. Spending much of his spare time and holidays enjoying the experience and meeting many of the drivers and local people.

Over the years many of Alan's photos have been enlarged into posters and displayed in local truck stops with many going overseas with travellers fascinated by our amazing trucks and outback scenery.

One in particular that Alan is most proud of is one that he took of a Shell tanker being driven by David Day during the 80s. It was taken while driving 10kms north of Three Ways on a dusty Stuart Highway while road words were being completed. Two young men from Darwin painted a copy of this photograph onto the outside wall of the Three Ways Truck Stop.

Alan's last trip to Alice Springs was during July 2003 where he spend time photographing the railway extension to Darwin being completed.

Unfortunately due to ill health Alan has retired from travelling into faraway places to follow his passion for photography.
