Albert Lansdown

Albert Cecil Lansdown was born on the 19th September 1926 at the Lucy Vale Victoria and moved to Balranald in 1932 where he married Lex now deceased. He was best known to everyone as Bertie.

Bertie started in the industry with his father Robert Lansdown. He was carrying tomatoes with a 1935 Ford five tonner. In 1940 Bertie was promoted into a 1939 Fargo carrying general freight around the Balranald area. He also carted to the rail road, Swan Hill and Hay until 1944. Bertie then joined the FAAF as a fitter and driver of motor transport (better known as a fitter DMT) until 1946.

After the war Bertie returned to Balranald as a driver for Balranald Transport. He drove for them carrying livestock and general freight until 1962 when he took over the local BP fuel depot where he delivered fuel and oil products in and around the Balranald district for about 10 years. About 1972 Bertie took up a contract with the Balranald Shire Council carrying gravel for road construction and general road maintenance until 1995 when he retired due to ill health. He still does mechanical repairs for his nephew and the rural fire brigade on a volunteer basis.
