Ronald Legge

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2005.
Ronald George Legge was born 18th June, 1947. He was educated in Kingaroy and left school at 15. He worked locally on farms and various labouring jobs. In the late 60s, Ron and a mate headed to the Northern Territory and did a stint on Victoria River Downs in the Territory, as stockmen.
Returning to Queensland in the 70s he did more stock work. He went into construction, helping to build the swimming pool at Wandoan, and the water towers at Oakey and Stradbroke Island .As a youngster he spent time with his dad in trucks and it was his father who taught him to drive. On returning to Kingaroy he worked for Brian Muller carrying livestock.  Next he drove for  Bagleys Transport at Palmwoods for six years doing trips to Melbourne and Sydney starting out in a 1942 Mercedes Benz, then a Volvo and lastly,  his beloved Mack. It was during this time that he met his future wife. Once married, he gave away interstate, moved to Nanango and worked for Flemings Transport doing daily trips to Brisbane. During this time he ran into his old construction foreman who got him a job at Tarong Power Station where he spent the next few years. Ron was unemployed for a short time before starting work for Porters Livestock Transport in Kingaroy in 1986. For the next nine years and nine months, he carted pigs, cattle, deer and goats over Queensland and northern NSW. During this time Ron was re-acquainted with a mate from interstate days who asked him to work for him. On the 30th June 1995 Ron went to drive for Grahame Porter in Pittsworth carrying general freight to Melbourne until 2001. Grahame bought Mt Isa Carriers and Ron now runs north to Mt Isa and occasionally to Darwin. In 2009, Ron is still driving for Grahame and is doing weekly trips to Mt Isa.
