Michael “ Mick “ Law

Michael (Mick) Law's father was an interstate truck driver, so truck driving was in his blood. He learnt to drive as a very young boy by watching his dad drive for Mayne Nickless.

Mick was always more interested in driving than going to school, something his sons share with him, so more than likely there will be three young men who will follow him into the transport industry. Mick left school when he was 15 and joined the army when he was 17. He was naturally drawn to the Army School of Transport at Puckapunyal in Victoria. He enjoyed his time in the army and stayed for six years.

Mick's first driving job was with Roger Sykes at Sykes Transport in Geelong. He then bought his first truck, a 1977 model Kenworth and contracted to various companies. His next truck was a W Model Kenworth which he used for refrigerated work.

At around 28 years of age Mick moved to Brisbane where he became a freight manager. He stayed in that job for a few years then went to work for Lewingtons, driving from Adelaide around the country. Mick also worked for Hi Speed, now called Hitrans, out of Adelaide. He also worked for Tex and Robyn Rehe who are well known in the transport industry.

Mick met his second wife, Kelly, and moved to Albury New South Wales. He has a son Trent from his previous marriage. He is also father to Lachlan, Jacob and Dion.

Some other companies Mick worked for are Hume Transport, Toll and Greenfreight. Returning to Tex Rehe he worked as General Division Manager and as a driver. Mick, Kelly and family have lived in North Albury for the past 12 years, he currently drives interstate for East Coast Transport out of Toowoomba.

Those who know Mick respect his ability as a driver and most speak of his generous nature, always willing to lend a hand. Some have said Mick would stop to give a hand without question but most of all he would give you the shirt of his back.

Mick is a great dad and husband. He loves his family and the industry that has always been his life.
