Gerard McDonald

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Gerard McDonald, better known as Gerry, commenced work as a 15 year old in March 1953 with Carey's Freight Lines. The young vibrant and keen Gerry continues his employment with the company some 58 years later. He is by far the company's longest serving employee, an outstanding achievement in the industry.
Over his considerable 58 years in the industry Gerry has been held in the highest regard in the company and become part of the furniture at Carey's. The 3rd generation of Careys work in the company and they have the same respect as Harold Carey the founder of the company for Gerry. Long standing customers and fellow drivers share the same thoughts. Combine a sound driving history, an incredible rapport with customers, a truly professional attitude, his unique personality and you have the epitome of an industry legend.
Ever the consummate professional Gerry has seen many developments in equipment both trucks and trailers, the roads travelled and the industry as a whole. Gerry commenced his employment driving a 1954 R180 Inter petrol and today Gerry can be spotted travelling the highway in a Kenworth K104 Aerodyne. The years in between have seen Gerry master everything from a 1938 Inter 48 Ford, to a Diamond T, Chev Maple Leaf, Commer Knocker, Macks and Kenworths and many more in between. He holds a vast knowledge of the industry and particularly the areas of Sydney and Brisbane which he willingly passes on to those young drivers who strive to achieve.
Gerry's experience in the industry would be unparalleled by most drivers of today. The dedication he has for his profession is outstanding and is evident in the respect he has earned from those around him. He has clocked up millions of kilometres in his long history. To this day Gerry shows no signs of giving the game away and approaches his job with the same enthusiasm and professionalism he has demonstrated throughout his long and illustrious career. Gerry is also a founding member of the Tamworth Truck Drivers Club.
A true gentleman of the road with truck driving in his blood! Gerry has a passion for family (wife Jenny and four daughters), friends, the industry and his lovingly restored International C1200 Series truck, which he purchased as a wreck and has restored.  It is his pride and joy.
