Mr Jack McCafferty

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2000.

In 1940, young Jack McCafferty sat under a tree in Toowoomba and dreamt of building a coach network the likes of which this country had never seen.  Considering he'd just purchased his first bus, a 27 hp Reo, it was certainly an ambitious dream; but Jack was determined to get there.
After driving all day, Jack and wife Lorna spent their nights doing the books and servicing the bus.  Within a few years they had built a fleet of eight buses to service the Toowoomba area.One of these was a 44 seat Mack bus which was too big to fit in their shed.  To service it properly they'd have to park the front over the pit, then reverse out and back in to put the rear over the pit.  In the following years his dedication to customer service and his staff alike made him a household word throughout Queensland and eventually right throughout Australia as the business experienced exceptional growth.From the days his buses carried a few spare fold-up chairs so that extra passengers could sit in the aisle, and when suitcases were strapped to the roof with big leather straps through the handles, he achieved the full realisation of his dream.  Mr McCafferty won the hearts of Australia with his loyalty to industry and commitment to service.  Up until his death in 1999 Jack  McCafferty still personally assessed every decision and played an active role in his business overseeing a staff of 600, 120 luxury coaches, 1000 services and over 4000 calls a day for reservations. Mr Jack McCafferty's philosophy was a simple one;    "the man who never made a mistake - never made a success of himself either"
