Brendan McLean

After completing his apprenticeship and working several years in Corowa, New South Wales, Brendan Mclean and his wife Lorna Mclean moved to South Australia in 1967 so that Brendan could begin working with PK Good Transport. Brendan was responsible for the maintenance and servicing of interstate trucks and when needed he would even jump behind the wheel and do a trip to Adelaide to Melbourne. Initially the fleet were 1418 Mercedes Benz with pusher axles and later upgraded to the more modern and powerful K123 Kenworth prime movers (Detroit Powered).

Brendan got into this industry because he had a great love of trucks and engines. One of the things he loved to do, and still does, is to pull things apart and put them back together. In 1984 PK Good Transport was sold and Brendan made the move to CMV Truck Dismantlers. At CMV he worked as a Detroit engine rebuilder and driveline specialist focussing on Road Ranger transmissions, Eaton and Rockwell differentials. Brendan's role at CMV later included travelling the country areas buying trucks and surplus equipment from major transport companies and private businesses. During this time Brendan made many life time friends and is still well known and respected throughout the repair, dismantling and transport industry.

Brendan feels that the best thing in the industry years ago was that there was more time to do things, where as now there are more limitations, compliancy regulations and everything needs to be done faster. He feels that the best thing in the industry in today's times is that the engines run much cleaner particularly than the old two stroke Detroit's he was accustomed to.

Brendan retired at 67 in 2009 but continued to work part time up until 2012 when CMV closed its Dismantling operation in Wingfield South Australia. Brendan still works for CMV when needed on the CMV Group Historical Commercial Vehicle Collection.
