Darren Murray

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

While working for Harry Baxter and Jim Simpson doing his motor mechanic apprenticeship, Darren Murray started to drive trucks. After completing his apprenticeship Darren moved from Drouin to Mildura where he commenced his truck driving career full time. He drove a Mini Mix delivery truck for Mildura Mini Mix travelling from Mildura to Adelaide return, carting firewood.

In approximately 1990 Darren's parents Bruce and Larraine approached Darren about returning to Drouin and becoming a partner in their business which involved selling bricks and building products and transporting them from Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo to the Gippsland area. The business was named A.B., L&D Murray Pty Ltd.

Numerous trucks, trailers and forklifts were purchased: Kenworths, Macks, Western Stars, Accos and Internationals. With 6 trucks and 2 sub contractors the business travelled all over Victoria and some parts of New South Wales. In late 1993 they purchased Darren's pride and joy; a Western Star. One of the highlights in this truck was when it was used as his wedding vehicle in the marriage to  Kerrieanne.

Darren was a regular on the Hume Highway often loading bricks in Traralgon and delivering them in and around the Albury, Wagga Wagga area, reloading in Albury and returning home with this load.Darren has carted containers filled with milk powder from Drouin to the wharfs in Melbourne, slate, paper, roof tiles, bricks and landscaping products all over Victoria, a large area of New South Wales and Adelaide. He even did one load of pavers from Adelaide to Cairns.

In 2004 Darren and Kerrieanne took over the family business leaving his father to retire. Darren continues to drive all over Victoria but has scaled it right back relying on his staff of around 7 to do the majority of driving while Darren does the day-to-day running of the business. Darren has clocked up about 3 million kilometres. Darren hopes one day that his children James, Jessica or Charlie will continue on with the family business.
