Vincent Monahan

Vincent (Vinny) Monahan was born in May 1948 and has gone on to enjoy over 45 years in the trucking industry despite having started his working life as a pastry cook. The young man realised his real passion and desire was to drive trucks and by the time he was 18 was working for Eldridge Brothers in Colac driving an International R190 carting livestock.
Vinny then met the other love of his life, Jeanette, whom he later married. The couple produced four children: Paula, David, Shane and Lisa. This union also resulted in a move to Camperdown and a new job driving for Mercury Meats carting from the Camperdown Abattoirs. In 1980 Vinny decided to broaden his horizons and enter the line-haul sector. He began working for Scotts Transport, Mount Gambier. It was a working relationship that lasted for almost 30 years. At Scotts, Vinny worked alongside his brothers Pat and Eric. Vinny's job as a line-hail operator took him all over Australia driving semis and B-Doubles. He initially started off carting general but through the years progressed to carrying Carbon Gas and later fuel. Vinny was also one of the first drivers to haul uranium ore from Roxby Downs to the Adelaide wharf .Today, trucking is very much a family affair with Vinny working for Sargeants Transport of Ballarat, alongside his son David. Vinny and David travel from Melbourne to Koroit and return on a daily basis. Vinny is known far and wide and respected by all. It is well known along the highway that any-one tuning into channel #40 on the UHF Radio and will hear Vinny's voice which is always at the ready for a yarn. Vinny Monahan has accumulated 45 years of driving and shows no signs of slowing down in 2012. He has an accident-free driving record and is respected for the professionalism he gives to his work. He has been a loyal employee to all he has served over the years. The many friends he has made on the road are now lifelong friends for both Vinny and his family.
