Russell Murison
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.
Russell Murison began his driving career in the mid 1960s driving a small Ford truck carting fuel to the new land farmers around the small town site of Munglinup, 120klms west of Esperance on WA's south east coast.
In the early 1970s he drove a Scania carting livestock around the Esperance farming area and to the local meat works. In the early 1980s he drove a Kenworth K100 roadtrain with four deck cattle trailers from the Northern Territory to Derby.
Russell mainly hauled to meat works at Derby and south to the Harvey Meat Works in roadtrain configuration sometimes rarely passing another vehicle in a day of travel. Looking for a change of pace, Russell then spent some time running back and forwards with general freight across the paddock as the Nullarbor Plain was jokingly referred to in those days. The road was had more traffic but there were plenty of long lonely stretches between Adelaide and Perth. Russell drove a Kenworth W900 for a while before upgrading it to a Kenworth T900 which he still drives today. It has done over 3.5 million kilometres and hasn't missed a beat. People say it is one of the best loved and looked after trucks in the paddock!
Russell now pulls a low-loader behind it and can be found anywhere on the roads between Western Australia and New South Wales and all points between. Russell and his trucks have featured in a XXXX commercial and in an episode of Blue Heelers as well as being featured in several trucking magazines. He is well known and respected by all on the road and everyone feels he is well-deserving of this award.
