Tony Marson
Anthony (Tony) Marson was born on the 21stJanuary 1948, into a dairy and potato farming family in Bunyip (West Gippsland) Victoria. When his father moved the tractor; Tony would be hanging off the side! Transport was is his blood.
The day he got the real bug for trucks was when Max Lieshout came to pick up the cans of Milk from the farm. Max was 16 had no licence and in Tony's eyes, Max was cool, Tony decided that day, Road Transport was for him!
At 21, he left the farm and started his long association with transport carting bulk cement out of Traralgon to Melbourne and Canberra. The cement works at Traralgon closed down so then Tony purchased a V8 UD semi tipper and worked for Sure Quarries in Warragul - that was in 1976.
After a few years he started with Pakenham Blue Metal.
At the age of 31 with four children growing up, he decided to instil some old fashion values. He purchased a dairy farm at Tongala in the Goulburn Valley region, where he stayed for nine years. In 1988 and moved back to suburbia and started working again with Pakenham Blue Metal.
In 1991 his eldest son Shane had gained his HA license and came to work for him driving the tipper at PBM. At that time he purchased an interstate Gas contract with Chemtrans in Melbourne, Shane in the tipper and Tony on the IS gas - it worked well.
Holcim brought out PBM and the subbies became casual. Tony expanded further into Chemtrans and purchased another local contract on gas carting industrial gas, 24/5 EX Geelong to Altona, with two prime movers and four driver's, it worked well for six and a half years. The Altona plant ceased operations and closed down, which meant Tony had to retrench all his permanent driver's and he went back to a one truck operation.
In 1996 he gained a contract with Mobil Bitumen in Altona and is now a one truck operation carting bitumen EX Geelong, mainly to the Eastern states.
Tony's still carting bitumen, and loves the job and the people he works for, in his words I get paid to see some amazing places while doing what I love.
