Ian Miller

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Ian Miller was born in Warrnambool Victoria on 23 March 1939 and started his own business as a contractor with Murray Goulburn in 1977 with one truck, a 1418 Mercedes Benz. Thirty-three years later he is still contracted to Murray Goulburn.  He became involved in the transport industry at an early age and started his driving career in 1955 driving a petrol Commer with a bogie trailer for Joe Harrington of Warrnambool. The Commer was used to carry hardwood fence posts from Dunnolly in central Victoria to farms in the Warrnambool district and it was this truck that gave him the experience to go further in the transport industry.

In 1957 he began driving for Kain & Shelton of Mount Gambier and stayed there for 10 years. He drove International R180s, AA180s and the best truck on the road at the time, the R190. This was at a time when Kain & Shelton was operated by the company's founders, Jack Kain and Aub Shelton who were highly respected men in the transport industry. Prior to becoming an owner driver he also worked for P R Malone and Kevin O'Toole driving various makes of trucks.

During his time in the transport industry there have been many changes. Border hopping from western Victoria to South Australia which was illegal at that time was common as truckies wanted to avoid the taxes that they believed to be unfair. He has also seen a huge improvement in trucks and trailers including increased horse power, driver comfort and improved braking.

Ian's business now operates a fleet of 8 late model prime-movers including Freightliners and Internationals which are mainly contracted to Murray Goulburn of Koroit Victoria. He runs the business with the assistance of his wife Shirley, daughter Sherren and sons Craig and Scott. The company is a very well-respected business in the Warrnambool district and they have supported many local sporting clubs over a long period of time including the South Warrnambool Football Club and various clay target shooting clubs.

Ian Miller has been in the transport industry for 55 years and is highly respected by everyone who knows him including his customers, suppliers, employees, family and friends. Ian Miller, you are a LEGEND.
