Robert (Doc) Milligan

Robert (Doc) Milligan was born in Kempsey, New South Wales on the 22nd September 1962. Doc has had the support of his loving wife Leeane for his entire trucking career.

Trucks have been in Doc's family since his grandfather Robert Hector Milligan owned and operated timber trucks that were based in Nulla Nulla Creek New South Wales. Doc started in the trucking industry at 15, washing trucks and moving them around the yard of CP & NR Clarke Transport. At 19 Doc got his truck licence and bought his first truck, a 1976 Louisville. His first job was as a sub-contractor for TNT.

Doc has been in the trucking industry for 34 years and in that time he has been a sub-contractor, owner driver and fleet owner. He has owned and operated many types of trucks, including semi tippers, semi tankers, ridgids, truck and dogs, flat tops and even a tow truck. Some of the loads carried included general freight, mine props, mineral deposits, dozers, cattle, fuel, liquid sugar, tallow, bricks, gravel, coal, meatmeal and bones. However Doc is most known for offal carting which started in 1984 and is still the bread and butter of the business today.

Doc spent many years doing interstate runs but most of his work has been local along the mid north coast of New South Wales. Doc's best memories of his trucking life are mateship. He has gained numerous mates from this close knit group and is something to remember. At the Kempsey Truck Show, Doc has won Trucker of the Year. This award acknowledges skilled driving, tarp tying and tyre changing.

Doc feels very fortunate to have had a life in trucks, doing something he loves and following in his grandfather's footsteps. Currently Doc enjoys restoring trucks and preserving their history. His first restoration project was a 1418 Benz and his current one is a 1981 Ford Louisville which he owned from 1988 to 1996 and bought back in 2014.
